BKIN
BKIN - BoonWurrung Kulin Indigenous Network
The main objective of BKIN is to assist and support indigenous person/s through personal collective volunteer actions.
B KIN is for respect. Respect for self. Also to respect the humanity and human values of another person. To respect the individuality of another person. Respect all indigenous people living in Kulin, based on appropriate Kulin wisdoms and principles. Respect for all non-indigenous people who live with an indigenous perspective and awareness. Respect for country.
A volunteer organisation practicing age old principles, paradigms and wisdoms. Not living as dictated by the latest government legislation, policies and strategies. An organisation that refuses government funding, and refuses to live solely within the parameters of government funding – To stay busy living our way.
Be – as it makes for a great sounding acronym that suggests a reminder of how. Be KIN. For me B is for BoonWurrung which is the spiritual country I was born of, and live on.
Kulin. – (includes all the wur/rung). The area of Victoria with the most population. Where the most interaction between peoples and country occur, and signifies a connection between all. Most issues, organisations, services, etc occur, are targeted, and based in Kulin. Kulin includes the entire greater Melbourne and, Geelong, Bendigo, Seymour, Healesville, Narre Warren, to Wilson’s Promontory and Point Nepean.
Indigenous – an opportunity to play with words. I enjoy this word, not to describe myself, but so suitable for the greater population of Australia. The dictionary definition means everyone born in Australia. The Australian governements have legislated Indigenous includes Australian Aborigine, which has become modern day usage.
Network – as it completes the great sounding acronym. Be KIN. We should at least network, and socialize, hopefully support and form community. Respect for self, respect for all.
For me being BoonWurrung living on country, I am aware of issues and responsibilities of country and cycles. For all of us living in Kulin there are concerns and issues of commonality and indigeneity for us all.
B KIN a great sounding acronym which suggests the answer to lifes issues.
